About

My home country, New Zealand, was historically described as the “England of the South Seas”. (Let’s get this straight: I’ve been to England. This description is highly inaccurate.)

In 2010, I’m moving half-way around the world to start my PhD in another place named by over-hopeful British colonists, to which, unlike England, I have never been: New England. There will be similarities; there will be, probably unexpected, differences. Join me while I work out which is which.

(Also, a minor disclaimer: my first year in the States is being funded by the nice people at Fulbright New Zealand, who would like me to tell you that this blog consists entirely of my own views and opinions and is not representative in any way of the views and/or opinions of any other person or organisation, including them. Just in case anyone was wondering!)
